Concrete kitchen counter tops: Which cement should I use? PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 16 February 2011

Jenny wrote to us with the following question:

I am keen to make a kitchen sink vibe using concrete lintels.  In order to create a smooth finish over the top, do I use white cement only, or a mixture of white and normal cement?

Les answered as follows:

White cement is the same as grey cement in its manufacture and its properties with the only exception being that it is white. White cement is more expensive than grey cement because of the components that go into it to making it white. Mixing the two has no value at all. White cement is, therefore, mainly used for decorative work such as that which you want to do as it is not economical to use for general work.

In using white cement, the choice of the stone for mixing the concrete will be important.

WDDM, via the security model built into the Gigabyte GA-8IPE775-G Chipset Driver GPU memory manager and scheduler, provides this needed isolation. I wanted a clean PC so I decided to format and reinstall Windows.

I would presume that you will be using 6mm white chips as opposed to grey or brown as this will give you a better finish where the stones are visible.
