Peter wrote in and said that after the heavy rains, he noticed water coming in down one of the walls and it appeared to be coming in through the ceiling. He asked what is the best way to find the leak.

Well, we asked a roofing contractor, and he said that as water will normally find the shortest route, the best thing Peter could do is get someone to stand on the roof with a hosepipe whilst he climbs into the ceiling. Turn on the hose et voila you will find the source of the leak.  If your roof is tiled, it could be just that a tile has moved and you can easily put that right by shifting it into place, if there is a crack in the sheet or rusty screws and nails then look at the Top Seal range of environmentally safe products to repair that.
