A new and very cool kind of shade is taking the market by storm.
Remember the old shadecloth on gumpoles that always just looked like a temporary measure for keeping the sun out? Well, Shade Plus Sails are the new and modern way to give your home an up-to-date, contemporary look at a far lower cost than most other improvements you could make.
Originally from New Zealand, Fiona has brought with her this attractive and appealing solution to South Africa - a bold, beautiful and colourful design to protect us from the harsh African sun.
In Australia and New Zealand the governments have implemented standards within the shade industry and Shade Plus SA adheres to these stringent standards.
Every single shade sail is made to individual measurements and design. Changes in height, as well as overlapping sails, or even multiple sails, give each design a unique character - it will completely transform your outdoor setting.
Do you have an outdoor area that is unusable in summer because of heat and direct sun?
A Shade Sail system will transform a hot, unusable area into a tranquil, shady spot. The fabric allows air to circulate, and hot air is able to rise and escape rather than being trapped by a solid canopy. This means that the temperature underneath a shade sail is at least 3 to 5 degrees cooler than in the sun.
I asked Fiona for some specs and she told me this:
Shade Sails provide a high-quality solution that will last for many years. Shade sails are made and erected according to exacting international standards. They are weather-resistant, remaining unaffected by wind, rain and sun exposure. We use Knittex shade cloth, a world-class polyethylene netting designed for use under tension; it will not tear, fray, shrink, rot or support mildew, and comes with an 8-year manufacturer’s warranty against UV degradation. Seams are double-stitched for maximum strength, and we use only marine-grade stainless steel fittings to attach sails to supporting structures. Sails won’t flap in the wind or sag in the middle, because catenary curves cut from the side of each sail, as well as a stainless steel cable running through a perimeter pocket, ensure that the sail is always correctly tensioned throughout.
These are just some of the places that a shade sail system will enhance your property and provide you and your family with that extra protection from the sun:
A section of your swimming pool
Children’s sand-pits and other play areas
Patios and decks
Outdoor eating, seating and entertainment areas
Large sun-drenched windows
A section of your garden
Driveways – create an unusual and attractive carport
